Poet's biography:
Heather Ann Schmidt is an adjunct professor at Oakland Community College in Michigan. She edits tinfoildresses poetry journal. Her poems can be found in various online and print journals. Her other books include Channeling Isadora Duncan (Gold Wake Press, 2009), The Owl & the Muse: Collected Tanka (recycled karma press, 2009) and a full collection of poems forthcoming from Village Green Press. She received her MFA from National University.
Crisis Chronicles published another collection of her poems, Transient Angels, in May 2011.

I just did a project on the definition of an American haiku. Since our language is so different than that of the Japanese, new rules have been laid so that American haikus sound similar to that of the Japanese. With that said, the pattern is supposed to be 2-3-2 ACCENTED syllable patten.

I met Heather yesterday at "The Power of Girlhood" event at the Southfield Public Library. I purchased her "The Bat's Love Song American Haiku"....her poetry makes me smile!
